Ride with the train of Pelion

The train of Pelion or Mountzouris, is a tourist train that travels to the villages of Pelion, with a speed of 20km / h and covers a distance of 15km. It is one of the attractions of the area and is loved by young and old!

The journey takes a total of 1 hour and 30 minutes, with a 15 minute stop in Ano Gatzea. The train runs on very narrow railway lines and passes by ravines, bridges, lush vegetation, overlooking the Pagasitikos.

The train consists of 4 wooden wagons with balconies, his two old ones steam locomotives and two diesel wagons. The direction of the machine is manually reversed on a special platform at the edge of the station.

The starting point of the train is Lechonia, where the beautiful route starts on the slopes of Pelion to Milies. The only stop is in Ano Gatzea. The train passes through Agia Triada, Agios Athanasios, Pinakaton, Argyreika.

Arriving in Milies, visitors can follow the path that leads to the village square with the temple-attraction of Pammegiston, where in 1821 Anthimos Gazis raised the flag of the revolution. The church has impressive hagiographies and a wood-carved iconostasis. The historic flag is in the village library.


Ano Lechonia is 12 km away from Volos. You can get there by car, there is a parking space.

With traffic from Volos by bus Volos-Lechonia-Platanidia. The stop is just 50 meters away.


The train operates from Spring to Autumn with one daily route. It starts from Ano Lechonia at 10 in the morning and from Milies at 3 at noon.

Children (4-12 years old) are 6 euros one way and 10 euros return.

The landscape changes according to the season, and Autumn is definitely very impressive!
