Parikia is the capital of Paros. There is the port, so this is the first place you see when you reach the beautiful island. Small alleys with beautiful whitewashed houses with blue windows and flowering pots.
The main street of the market, Lohagou Fokianou Street, is full of shops and old buildings and some Venetian mansions. It dominates the central square the bust of Manto Mavrogenous.
Walk the coastal road, Gianni Pariou Street, which is full of taverns and cafes. It is very beautiful there at sunset.
At the end of the road is Livadia beach. They are essentially two almost glued organized beaches with sand and tamarisk trees that offer a lot of shade.
One of the main attractions of the island is the famous Ekatontapyliani, a large church with different types of architecture (early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine). It is one of the most important early Christian monuments in the country and in fact the largest in size! There is also the Byzantine museum.
The castle, known as Frangokastelo, is from 1260 and is located on the site of the ancient citadel of the island, on the hill of Agios Konstantinos, above the port. These are the remains of a Venetian castle,
Excavations in 1983 uncovered an ancient cemetery dating to the end of the 8th century BC. until the 3rd century AD. It includes tombs from different eras. A mass grave stands out, the only one found in the Aegean, dating to the end of the geometric period. The site functions as an archeological park.
The Archaeological Museum is one of the most important in Greece, due to its exhibits from the excavations made in Paros and Antiparos. Worth to visit! It is open Tuesday-Sunday from 8:00 to 15:00 and the ticket costs 2 euros.
Parikia is full of Greek and foreign tourists during the summer season. It is a beautiful place and every hour of the day has a different view. Early in the morning it is very quiet and ideal for a walk with the dew. Late afternoon is more romantic while at night there is intense nightlife.
